6 Reasons Why We Strength Train
Strength training is foundational at H Dub and there are reasons beyond wanting to build muscle or become freaky strong. Let’s look at some of the other reasons we strength train and their benefits.
- Awesome for bone health.
As we age, the chance of us developing osteopenia, the loss of bone density, increases. Strength training is a great way to fight against this. Lifting weights puts our body under strain that will cause adaptation. Because our bodies are super smart machines, it recognizes that if it is under large strain regularly it must develop not only stronger muscles but also stronger bones. An exciting part about this is you don’t even have to work out every day to see these results. All you need is 2-3 days a week to see benefits for bone health.
- Immune function improvement.
Chronic disease is something we all want to avoid. A great way to protect yourself is by having a healthy amount of muscle mass which can be obtained through resistance training. When you train, your blood flows, you sweat and remove toxins from your system. You also improve your cardiovascular system, your capillary density and mitochondrial density. These aren’t just fancy words; they play a role in how well your immune system functions across your lifespan.
- It is functional.
This is plain and simple. If you are stronger, daily activities become easier. I am not just talking about picking things up, even though your ability to do that will improve. I am also referring to posture. I am referring to one’s ability to stand or be on their feet longer. Lifting weights prepares you for whatever life throws at you on the daily.
- Helps with weight loss and muscle gain.
Lifting weights burns calories. I believe we all know that and that makes sense to everyone. But did you know it also allows you to burn calories when you are not lifting weights? When you resistance train, you break down muscle tissues and your body repairs those tissues to be more resilient and stronger. In this process the body must use more calories to repair said tissue. Since those muscles grow back stronger, they will also provide you with more muscle mass.
- It builds confidence.
Have you ever felt like you couldn’t do something? Feel like you will never reach a certain goal in life? Strength training is a great discipline that can help build your confidence. As you get stronger, and see you are a capable person, this bleeds over into other areas of your life. You realize the potential you have and you start accomplishing things you never thought you could.
- It is for EVERYONE.
Strength training doesn’t discriminate. It is beneficial to anyone and everyone. You can reap the benefits no matter your age.
Strength training has been a staple at H Dub since our inception and will remain that way. We hope this was helpful to you in understanding why we love strength training. If you have someone that you think would benefit from reading this article, be a friend and shoot it to them!
