Why Hyrox could be your next fun challenge.
Have you heard of Hyrox? No? Let me tell you about this fitness race that is exploding in popularity. The cool thing is, Hyrox is not for the seasoned veteran or for the newbie. Let’s learn more about it.
What is Hyrox?
Hyrox is a fitness race that combines running with functional exercises. The running distance is 1000 meters and the exercises include things like rowing, lunges, burpees, and pushing heavy sleds. To me it has the repeatable elements of a triathlon or a 5k so you can compare apples to apples but also has the variety you find in CrossFit to keep it from being super boring or monotonous. The official Hyrox race looks like this:
1000m Run
1000m Ski Erg
1000m Run
50m Sled Push
1000m Run
50m Sled Pull
1000m Run
80m Burpee Broad Jump
1000m Run
1000m Row
1000m Run
200m Farmer’s Carry
1000m Run
100m Sandbag Lunge
1000m Run
100 Wall Balls
Why Should You Try Hyrox?
- A New Challenge: If you’ve been working out regularly and feel like you’re ready for something new, Hyrox could be the perfect fit. It’s not just about running fast or lifting heavy weights; it’s about combining those skills and pushing yourself in a whole new way.
- Fun and Engaging: One of the best parts of Hyrox is how varied it is. You’re not just doing the same thing over and over. The mix of running and different exercises keeps things interesting and makes the time fly by. Plus, there’s a great sense of accomplishment when you complete each section!
- Train with Friends: Hyrox can be done as an individual or as a team. If you love working out with homies, you can train together and even compete as a team.
- Perfect for All Levels: Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a fitness pro, Hyrox is designed for everyone. There are divisions so you do not have to perform weights or volume that is outside of your current ability.
Final Thoughts
Hyrox is more than just a competition—it’s a fun and challenging way to test your fitness and see how far you’ve come.
