Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not crushing the hardest every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better

Congrats goes to Sarah Shuba! Sarah is as kind as she is consistent in the gym. As a teacher, she understands the importance of listening and receiving feedback which is a coach’s dream. She is also an all in type of person as she has displayed some of the best Open Outfits this year so far!  Learn more about Sarah in her questionnaire below:

Name: Sarah Shuba

Hometown: Nashville, TN

Age: 30

Occupation: 3rd grade teacher

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I grew up in Smyrna, but was in Nashville all the time growing up.  I went to Father Ryan High School, then the University of Dayton in Ohio.  I studied Early Childhood Education and came home to teach.  My parents and brother are here, and we all go to Titans games together.  It’s been crazy seeing the growth Nashville has gone through, but I wouldn’t call any other place home!  I enjoy going on walks with friends, biking, yoga, finding new music to listen to, and a good happy hour.

What were your goals when you started training?

To be movin’ and groovin’ consistently – I guess I found the right place to do it!  I’ve been involved in various sports, and there were always coaches telling me what movements to do and how to exercise.  Once those slowed down post high school, I realized I still needed that in a non-sport fitness setting, as well.  Hence me joining a coach led gym.

How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it?

I just started back in October, but I’ve been in a CrossFit setting for five years.  Shoutout to Ruby for pitching H Dub to me when I needed a new gym!

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training?

My least favorite movements are bear crawls and running.  My favorite is any kind of squat!

How has H Dub positively affected you?

H Dub has helped me recognize how much stronger I am than I thought.  The atmosphere and support are electric, which helps to push boundaries and give everything a try no matter my skill level.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Watch, then do.  Ask questions.  Talk to literally anyone.  Everyone around is there to help and make you feel sure of yourself.

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I am the Nashville Community Leader for all of the University of Dayton alumni.  Go Flyers!

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

Both of my grandparents and my aunt – it’d be like a little family reunion since they’re no longer with us.

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be?

Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson

Favorite Sport?

To play: golf

To watch: Titans football (most days)

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

I’m very much a right on time or 5 minutes late kind of gal, so I would love to be able to teleport.

What is your favorite thing to eat?

My parents’ annual chicken enchiladas, or any Mexican food in general.
