April Athlete Of The Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not crushing the hardest every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better

Congrats goes to Alex Woodard! Though she hasn’t been at H Dub long, she feels like she has been a part of the family for years. Friendly, positive and dedicated is how we would describe Alex. Though a workout may be tough, she is going to find a positive spin and will look at it as a great challenge.  Learn more about this Nashville Native in her questionnaire below:

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I’m one of the rare ones who was born and raised in Nashville. I was living in Birmingham, AL for the last 11.5 years until January of this year, so it’s like I’ve come home to a whole new city! I love spending time with my family, having game nights with friends, and reading outside when the weather is pretty. Is this starting to sound like a dating profile? Anyway, hope you’ll accept my rose!

What were your goals when you started training?

I started doing CrossFit style workouts about 8 years ago, and my goal was simply to find an exercise that I enjoyed and felt sustainable. Throughout the years, my goals have fluctuated, but now, my goal is very similar to when I started. I want to take care of the body I’ve been given and have fun doing it!

How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it?

I’ve been at H Dub for a little over a month now. I heard about it from the one and only Allison Gilreath, who I knew from our old gym in Birmingham.

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training?

My favorite thing in our training is how it is constantly varied, which helps me not get bored. I love how the programming is purposeful, and yet, different enough each day to keep things interesting. My least favorite part of training are the gymnastics movements, especially the ones on the rig. Ya girl has to build her lat strength.

How has H Dub positively affected you?

When I decided to move back to Nashville after being gone for so long, I knew my first priority would be to find community. Since my first class, everyone at H Dub has been so kind and welcoming, and it’s clear that community is one of the major strengths H Dub has as a gym. Having a gym community that I look forward to seeing each day has made my transition to living in Nashville again so much better.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Just show up! I was so nervous to try this style of training for the first time because I thought everyone would judge me. Never once have I felt judged, but instead, I have found people who celebrate me when I succeed and encourage me when I fail. H Dub, especially, is all about good vibes and making exercise fun, so just show up and see what all the hype is about!

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I used to work in the education department at a PBS Station, so I know way too much about PBS KIDS shows and have met Daniel Tiger in person many times.

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

Jesus, Steve Martin, JK Rowling

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be?

Can’t Stop- Red Hot Chili Peppers

Favorite Sport?

Probably either football or soccer

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Teleportation for sure

What is your favorite thing to eat?

A good steak, fresh seafood, or a warm brownie with ice cream
